Lobsters, Wineries and Lighthouses of New England

 

Join us for an adventurous tour throughout New England. Begin your tour in historic, Newport, Rhode Island. Learn about the beginnings as a colonial harbor, a bustling pirate -friendly port, and its strategic occupation during the American Revolution.

Enjoy a guided tour (via motorcoach) of the famous Ten-Mile Drive. View many of the summer cottages of Newport’s elite families. We will have an opportunity to visit the Breakers Mansion-built for Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1982. Lunch and free time in downtown Newport. Visit one of the many Wharfs for shopping, dining, entertainment and music. Drive by the Rose Island Lighthouse, the Ida Lewis Rock Lighthouse, and the Newport Harbor (GOAT ISLAND LIGHT). Wrap up your time in Rhode Island with a wine tour and tasting at Newport Vineyards. We will continue our journey through Boston, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Day One

Register with your group leader. Orientation and introductions of group members after dinner. Dinner will be served at Johnny’s Restaurant **choices pre-selected prior to arrival.

Day Two

We board the motorcoach for the Breakers Mansion (Audio guided tour included). Explore the beautiful grounds and gardens. Pick up our local step-on guide for a tour of Newport, RI. Highlights include the Ten-Mile Drive, Bellevue Avenue, summer cottages of the elite 400, and the Scenic Cliff Walk (3.5 miles)                         

Lunch is on your own followed by free time. Visit a few of the local Lighthouses in Newport -Rose Island Lighthouse, Conanicut Island Light, Newport Harbor Light (GOAT ISLAND LIGHT) and the Ida Lewis Rock Lighthouse. Finish the day with a wine tasting / lecture at Newport Vineyard.

Dinner is on your own this evening – you may wish to dine onsite at Johnny’s Restaurant, or the hotel offers a free shuttle to Thames Street where you have a variety of options.

Day Three

Depart for Boston, MA. Learn the history of Boston including the Freedom Trail, Boston Harbor, Quincy Market (local step-on guide). Free time for lunch and to explore. We will depart for Finestkind Scenic Cruises Ogunquit, MA. Board a lobster boat where you will observe lobster trapping first-hand and learn about the lobster industry. See traps being pulled with an overview of the fishery (provided by a local lobsterman). Free time to shop or walk the scenic costal cliff walk (Marginal Way-1.25 miles). Visit the beautiful Cape Neddick Lighthouse “Nubble Lighthouse”. A historic and iconic lighthouse in York, Maine. Known for its picturesque setting on a small rocky island offshore. One of the most photographed lighthouses in New England. Check into The Anchorage Inn in York, ME for the next two nights. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant. Relax and enjoy the remainder of the evening!

Day Four

Today we depart for Portland, MA. We will pick up our local step-on guide for a tour of downtown. Learn about fishing and trade industry, wartime destruction during the American Revolutionary War, the Railroad Hub connecting Canada in the 1840” s, turning Portland into a major winter shipping port. Drive along Casco Bay, the Portland Observatory, Portland Museum of Art, Eastern Promenade, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, and the Portland Breakwater Light. Depart for Freeport, MA. Guided tour of the L.L. Bean Flagship Campus.  Lunch and shopping on your own! We depart for Wilbur’s of Maine (Chocolate Confections). Enjoy a guided tour of the factory and chocolate tasting. After our tour we will go back to the hotel to freshen up for our NEW ENGLAND LOBSTER DINNER at Johnathan’s.                                                                                                       

Day Five

Depart for the Flag Hill Distillery in Lee, New Hampshire. Learn about wines in the region by a local sommelier. Enjoy a delicious BRUNCH with a Wine Tasting & Pairing. Free time to shop and explore the grounds. Depart for The Vermont Country Store Rockingham, VT. Learn about the store’s origination.    

Free time to shop and explore gadgets of passed. We will depart for our hotel-The Pointe at Castle Hill, Proctorsville, Vermont. This will be our home for the next two days. Dinner will be served at the resort this evening.                                             

Day Six

This morning we depart for Champlain Orchards, Shoreham, VT. We will have a guided tour of the orchards. Sample hard apple cider and apple cider donuts! Free time to shop and explore the grounds.

Our next stop will be the Waybury Inn, Middlebury, VT. Famously known for their connection with Robert Frost and the Bob Newhart show. Lunch will be provided. Our next stop brings us to the Green Mountain Sugar House, Ludlow, VT. Presentation on the harvesting of maple syrup (local expert). Tasting provided. Depart for the hotel. Dinner will be served at the resort tonight.

Day Seven

Breakfast is served at the inn this morning.

Depart for Warwick, RI and TF Green Airport (No flights scheduled before 2:00 PM)
